State Fair Texas
The Texas State Fair is held annually in Dallas and is 125 years old this year. The 52 foot statue of a Texan wearing cowboy duds, Big Tex, welcomes visitors as they walk by. His voice has belonged to Bill Bragg for the past 10 years. This year on Oct 19, 2012, he experienced an electrical fire and was completely destroyed while visitors watched. The Fair association has promised to build him back for next years event. The fair runs for 3 weeks and is home to the annual red river shoot out between the University of Texas and Oklahoma University. Its 212-foot Texas Star Ferris wheel has been the largest in North America since it debuted in October 1985. The fair is famous for frying anything and selling it to the public.This year,some of the fried delicacies were Chicken Fried Bacon, Fried Coke, Fried Bubblegum and Fried Banana Split, just to name a few. It is a family thing and a lot of fun. Bring your walking shoes.
